Beans in Berlin

While this post might look like another slew of Logan content (which it is), it's also about our Bean family who came all the way from Oklahoma to visit and meet our baby!

We had been looking forward to our family visiting before we even left the States. Ha! The countdown dwindled down and on a Sunday afternoon, Logan and I headed to the airport to pick them up. It was such a happy reunion. So much had happened since we last saw them in August. But I sure am grateful for FaceTime that helped the time apart seem not quite so long.

It was love at first sight for Logan and Papa!

We packed it in during those two weeks and explored parts of Berlin that were new to us. Bears are the city's unofficial mascot and they have around 500 of these Buddy Bears all over Berlin! They stand as a friendly, colorful symbol of tolerance. Each bear has a different design on it.

This particular one was on the way to the top of the TV tower for our dinner. Getting to dinner was another story... The farmers in Berlin have done multiple protests using their tractors and other large farm machinery. Like BIG tractors. Driving up and down the streets of Berlin. At one point we were barricaded in by the tractors and I was a little worried their horns would hurt Logan's ears. :')

It decided to flurry and snow on us!!!! Not super common here so I was very pleased with the snowfall. We explored the cemetery behind the east side of the Berlin Wall. The cemetery extended all the way up to where the wall is today. Thousands of graves were "relocated" to build the wall. People assume they weren't relocated though, rather just built on top of.

It was cold, but there was snow, and we were together!

3 generations of boys. Lots of Snarf, I Doubt It, Play Nine, and Ripple.

One of our favorite, favorite treat places, Brammibal's Donuts.

There's a lot behind this picture. Logan had his second pediatrician appointment and Shauna and Erin came with. Again, no parking lots in Berlin. My cousin Spencer said my book No Parking probably wouldn't do so well. ;)

We were in a time crunch and found this open space near the office. We probably did a 48 point turn to get our trusty Alba car nestled inside and were only 10 minutes late. I still can't believe we fit. Thanks to Shauna for standing in the cold and coaching me into our spot!

Logan loves when his grandparents come to visit because he gets some sweet outfits added to his wardrobe. He especially loves his USU onesies. #gwaggies

We live near the Natural History Museum and went for the first time! My favorite part was this Guinness World Record. The tallest, mounted dinosaur. In the world! Right there next to our apartment. So cool.

Jurrasic World 4 scene:

I may have turned my head the other way during this exhibit. All of the bottles contain water creatures. They were pretty gross in my opinion!

Another favorite was the Victory Column. 285 steps to the top! Logan slept through the whole thing like a champ. You can climb to the first level and admire the mural made out of tiny pieces of glass-like material. It's beautiful. The top was cold and windy, but we got a pretty good bird's eye view.

Some of Logan's cousins found a "Logan" book at Target and sent it as a Christmas present. So cute!!

Here's a little representation of where Logan's looks come from. Baby Justin + baby Claire = sweetie baby Logan. I think he's a pretty good mix of both of us.

Justin had three home games while Gordon, Shauna, and Erin were here. Pretty amazing with his crazy schedule!

#1 basketball player, husband, and dad. <3

On our last full day we made sure to go to REWE one last time and get some good snacks for the trip home. We call REWE our "cute, cozy store" haha. It really is, I love it!

We're soooo grateful that we could spend some precious days with our Bean family. Family truly is what matters most. I'm reading President Nelson's book, Heart of the Matter. In it he says this regarding the Proclamation on the Family:

The family is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan. Children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity.

These profound, declarative sentences contain the secret to happiness in this life and outline the gateway to eternal life.

The family unit really is the secret to happiness! There were some tears as we drove to the airport and this beautiful sunrise. It was a sweet ending to the best visit. We're so excited for summer and the next time we'll all be together!
